Jajce, Bosnia & Herzegovina

Monday, October 1 / 12

Jajce is famous for its beautiful waterfalls, so we were up at a decent time to check them out.

I decided to venture around them by walking along the ledge and nearly gave Ross a heart attack because he was afraid I was going to fall to my death.. luckily I was safe and Ross eventually caught his breath.

We walked around town and stopped for some breakfast... but with the language barrier, I ended up with an omelet and Ross got dessert pancakes.

We walked uphill to the catacombs. We paid to get in and it ended up just being a dark rock cave.. with not much to see.

We walked to river bank and played on the rocks and enjoyed the beautiful day and surroundings.

Then we headed to the Jajce fortress.

Built between the 13th - 14th centuries.

The view from the top was worth it.

There was not much to do in this small town. We had some lunch and passed the time playing some cards by the river.



We caught a bus at 1730 to Sarajevo.
3.5 hours later we arrived and the city was bustling with people.

There were more people around than we had seen the entire trip so far. We got settled in our hostel, had some dinner, then enjoyed the pubs and night life of Sarajevo. A fun night.

Zagreb, Croatia

Friday September 28 / 12

At the airport early. My flight left from Tallinn at 7:35am. I had a 4 hour uneventful layover in Vienna. I arrived in Zagreb around 2pm and made my way to the hostel. Ross's flight got in a bit later and he met me at the hostel around 5:30pm.

We went for supper to pretty much the first place we saw.. which isn't always the best idea. The food wasn't very good and they started playing organ demo music mid-way through our dinner, which was just awful.

Happy to leave the restaurant we checked out a few of the pubs. There were tons of options, but none of the pubs seemed overly busy. That's when we noticed the town square -->
It was packed with people just hanging out. I guess it was the place to be.

Saturday September 29 / 12

First order of business was finding the bus terminal to get our bus tickets to Jajce for Sunday.

After, we got lunch and headed up some stairs to the Lotrščak Tower.

The tower was built in the 13th century.

A bell was hung in the tower in the 1646.

In the 19th century, a floor  was added to the tower and a cannon was placed there. The Grič cannon is fired everyday at noon.

We wondered around for a bit then made our way to the museum of broken relationships.

A museum full of random artifacts and objects that previously represented a relationship. Different stories accompanied each item - some sad, some funny, some touching.. It was a very interesting museum.

It won an award in 2011 for being the most innovated museum in Europe.

We walked around the town.. I snapped some pictures of random churches.
We stumbled upon one church that was in a tunnel and there was an actual service going on.

We had pizza for dinner and went to many different pubs.

And still found that no pub was as busy as the town square.








Sunday September 30 / 12

Started the day by spending too much time looking for a restaurant that the guide book highly recommended. We finally found it and to make it worth our time, it was closed for renovations.

We ended up going to a fancy, high class restaurant instead for breakfast/ lunch. It was fantastic. Good food, good view and good service.

We just happen to walk by the Zagreb cathedral and we caught some traditional Croatian dancing.

It was quite entertaining.

There was also a changing of the guard ceremony.

After the festivities, Ross and I made our way to the bus terminal.


We had a 4 hour van ride to Jajce, Bosnia.

When we arrived, we quickly learned that English is not well spoken and that everyone (literally everyone) drinks little espresso coffee's with a glass of water on the side. Tea and diet coke were very hard to come by.
